The United States women’s fencing team won the silver medal in the team foil competition after losing to Russia in the gold medal match Saturday at the Beijing Olympics.

Adam Wiercioch and the Polish mens epee fencing team won a dramatic 45-44 match over host China in a semifinal match moving them into the gold medal match where they lost to France.

PSU Alum and Thai fencer Nontapat Panchan was eliminated in the individual epee round of 32 by Slawomir Mocek of Poland. This was Panchan’s only event in Beijing so his Olympics are over.

PSU Fencer Adam Weircioch, fencing for Poland, was eliminated 15-11 by China’s Goojie Li. Li went on to be eliminated in the round of 32.

Four time PSU All American Adam Wiercioch will be fencing in the men’s epee for his native Poland in the Beijing Olympic games. Wiercioch compiled a stellar 118-20 career dual meet record while he was at PSU.

Penn State Nittany Lion women’s fencer Doris Willette (Lafayette, Calif.) will represent the United State is the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Willette will compete as a member of the U.S. women’s foil team.
